We are delighted to present the 2022 Frontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences “Women in Science: Extragalactic Astronomy” article collection.
According to data from UNESCO, less than 30% of researchers worldwide are women. Gender inequality and stereotypes represents one of the major problems that affect the academic world and scientific progress. Disciplines such as physics and astronomy are traditionally male dominated and women continue to remain underrepresented in such fields to this day.
Gender equality is imperative to scientific progression and it is becoming increasingly important to show, especially to younger generations, the growing impact of women researchers in astronomy.
In this Research Topic, Frontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences is proud to offer the platform to promote the work of women scientists across all fields of Extragalactic Astronomy. The work here highlights the diversity of Research performed across the entire breadth of Extragalactic Astronomy research and presents advances in theory, experiment and methodology with applications to compelling problems.
