Uppingham School to open Ho Chi Minh City campus
The new school, which will open in 2023, will give students from 11 to 18 the option to be day students, weekday boarders or full boarders.
“Together we commit to build a world-class institution that nurtures tomorrow’s forward thinkers, debaters, and creators”
The plans include “state-of-the-art classrooms, art and science buildings, gymnasium, pool, and football sports pitches”, giving students what they believe to be the “best all-round education experience”.
Uppingham Vietnam will also be implementing additional “holistic opportunities” influenced by the UK campus’ “successful co-curricular program”.
Boarding houses at Uppingham Vietnam, like those in the UK school, will be designed to be “family-like”.
The partnership was officially formalised on November 19, with contracts being signed simultaneously over video link.
Vietnam ambassador to the UK Nguyen Hoang Long visited the school in Rutland to witness the ceremony, and received a tour of the campus, while the delegation from Viet Capital Education was hosted in the British Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City.
“Through this partnership we have the opportunity to design and build a state-of-the-art, purpose-built school which brings together the best of Uppingham and South-East Asia,” said Richard Maloney, Uppingham’s headmaster.
“We are honoured and excited to be partnering with VCAM to open Uppingham’s first overseas school.”
Viet Capital Education, which is an investment fund run by Viet Capital Asset Management, also celebrated the agreement.
“Together we commit to build a world-class institution that nurtures tomorrow’s forward thinkers, debaters, and creators,” said Pho Pham, CEO of VCAM.
“We aspire for Uppingham Vietnam to become a true alternative for Vietnamese students who may otherwise have considered studying abroad at a top school in the UK or elsewhere.”
“Our relationship will establish strong educational ties between our two nations, and Uppingham Vietnam will bring myriad opportunities for everyone who is part of the global Uppingham community,” Maloney added.
