GEMS to offer high school students college credits

A partnership with Arizona State University in the US will see students design their own flexible, tailored pathway online, which the partners say will prepare them in advance for university success.

By gaining university credits, students will see significant savings in both time and money if they choose to enrol at ASU to earn an undergraduate degree, GEMS noted. The credits can also potentially be transferred to any accepting university.

“We are continuously looking for new ways to enhance the opportunities for our students as we prepare them for the exciting, tech-driven future that awaits them,” Dino Varkey, group chief executive officer at GEMS Education, said in a statement.

“This partnership with ASU offers our students an innovative way to get the very best and latest expert tuition across a number of exciting areas, giving them a wonderful foundation for their university studies, including all-important course credits.”

The 20 ASU’s first-year Universal Learner Courses GEMS students will be able to choose from include: Accounting for Business; Introduction to Astronomy; Sustainable Engineering; and Computer Science.

“GEMS Education students can get a head-start on their university studies through our rigorous online courses”

“ASU is on a mission to design new models for educational access and to raise academic achievement for all learners across the globe,” said Maria Anguiano, executive vice president of Learning Enterprise at the institution in Tempe, Arizona.

“Through this collaboration, GEMS Education students can get a head-start on their university studies through our rigorous online courses designed and delivered using the latest technological innovations.”

The agreement with US News & World Report’s number one ‘Most Innovative School’ for six years running is fundamental for GEMS as it strives “to be at the forefront of innovation in education globally”, GEMS chairman and founder, Sunny Varkey, added.

“We are always looking at ways to bring innovation to the classroom, and use technology to enhance the experience of our students, teachers and parents. Innovation and technology are at the heart of our business as we move forwards.”
