This is a hurry transcript. Copy might not be in its remaining sort.
AMY GOODMAN: I want to turn to how 1 tv station in England coated this week’s heat wave. In this clip, that’s long gone viral, GB News anchor Bev Turner interviews meteorologist John Hammond.
JOHN HAMMOND: We all like good climate, but this will not be nice weather conditions. This will be potentially deadly weather for a pair of times. It will be transient, but it will be brutal. So, you know —
BEV TURNER: Oh, John, but —
JOHN HAMMOND: — we can — yeah?
BEV TURNER: So, this is — so, John, I want just to be happy about the weather. And each individual one — I do not know whether something’s transpired to meteorologists to make you all a very little little bit fatalistic and harbingers of doom, due to the fact all of the broadcasts, especially on the BBC, just about every time I have turned on anyone’s chatting about the climate, they’re stating that there’s heading to be tons of fatalities. But have not we often experienced incredibly hot climate, John? I necessarily mean, wasn’t it ’76, the summertime of ’76 — that was as incredibly hot as this, wasn’t it?
JOHN HAMMOND: Uh, no. And, you know, we are seeing much more and a lot more information, extra and extra frequently and far more and a lot more severely.
AMY GOODMAN: This has been compared to the hit motion picture Really don’t Search Up. Your reaction to this? And then if you can remark on the British prime minister’s race and where the remaining two candidates stand on this important issue?
GEORGE MONBIOT: So, I suggest, persons say that Never Look Up was an exaggeration, but, actually, the news anchors in Really don’t Glimpse Up were being not as stupid and as blinkered as the news anchors in that segment you’ve just witnessed.
When I saw Really do not Appear Up, it was like my existence flashing prior to me. I thought, “This is all so familiar.” This is all so — such as completely losing it in a Tv studio, exactly where I just couldn’t acquire it anymore, the banality, the stupidity, the triviality, and, I’m sorry to say, I just burst into tears, which is a bit mortifying. But, you know — and then, when I observed Do not Look Up, I felt almost vindicated, due to the fact, yeah, basically that is the human way to respond to this totally absurd, infuriating predicament, wherever these total morons are just dismissing the finest threat to human welfare there is at any time been. You know, how else can you react to it? And kudos to John for trying to keep his neat. I really do not know how he did it, due to the fact I would have been bashing my head on the table that he was sitting at.
Anyway, indeed, so, we’re speaking about whole morons. We now have a race amongst Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak to seize the helm of the Titanic as it begins going down — and in brackets, the Conservative Social gathering. You could not have two less suitable persons for significant business of any type at all, allow on your own to be prime minister of this nation. But they are heading to be picked out, not by the nation as a total, but by the users of the Conservative Bash, who are about 200,000 persons, mainly aged, virtually entirely white, mostly male, residing in a pretty distinct affluent portion of the region. And so, what these individuals have to do to develop into primary minister, really, is to attraction to the worst instincts of humanity, and that’s how they get. And both of those of them are extremely — are incredibly effectively outfitted to do that. Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak basically are, in concentrated variety, the worst instincts of humanity. And they would be totally devastating. I mean, we have had a horrible prime minister, the worst key minister at any time, possibly, in the sort of Boris Johnson, and it looks like they will carry on that superb tradition. Mainly, what the Conservative Party in this place has turn into, now that it’s been stripped of all moderating influences, is a channel for the needs of the most predatory and damaging types of capital.
AMY GOODMAN: And let’s just say, the British primary minister, addressing Parliament, just explained — Boris Johnson — ”Hasta la vista, child.” Your previous 5 seconds, George?
GEORGE MONBIOT: Yeah. I necessarily mean, I would adore to see the again of all of them. I necessarily mean, right here we are, in this enormous disaster —
AMY GOODMAN: We have to depart it there. I’m sorry.
GEORGE MONBIOT: Yeah.
AMY GOODMAN: I’m Amy Goodman, with Nermeen Shaikh.
