CBIE 2021 Excellence Awards winners announced

CBIE is a non-profit organisation that seeks to advance Canadian international education by creating and mobilising expertise, knowledge, opportunity and leadership.

“Richard Poulin has been a source of inspiration for many international education stakeholders”

A number of individuals and teams from Canadian colleges and universities were honoured by CBIE and iCent – International Student & Newcomer Support app, who are sponsoring the awards ceremony.

Winners included Richard Poulin director of the international bureau at Université Laval, who won the Member Emeritus Award.

“Thanks to his extensive experience, Richard Poulin has been a source of inspiration for many international education stakeholders,” CBIE said.

“He has played a key role in boosting Université Laval’s visibility and international standing. In addition, he has taken part in numerous committees, projects and conferences, where his contributions and experience carried significant influence.”

Other winners included Carol Zachs of Simon Fraser University, who won the Board of Directors Leadership Award, Vander Tavares of York University won the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Award and Mohamed Bouya Ely Vall of Université de Moncton won the Elizabeth Paterson Award.

CBIE added that its conference will provide those working in international education with a space for dialogue to reimagine community on a global scale.

“The world has changed in profound ways over the 18 months. The global disruption that we are living through brings an opportunity to reshape lives, institutions, and communities while taking action on access, inclusion, and social justice issues. What does this look like from the lens of international education in Canada?” CBIE said in a statement about the conference.

Questions will also be explored around what belonging and connection will look like within an interconnected global community.
